Advent

As so many kids & probably big kids too, are opening a daily advent calendar & eating its contents and  then moving on with their day, is that really all advent is about? Maybe we could take this advent season and create something that has a longer lasting impact than the chocolate treat. Advent means ‘the coming’, a time that has been traditionally celebrated for years in the church. A time where our hearts and minds are to be focused on all his coming represents and giving thanks for all it means.

This December I encouraged our church to take this month to prepare their hearts for all that is coming in the year ahead. God has already planned amazing things for your life in 2014, He plans to bless and prosper you, strengthen and guide you. Too often we let one year roll into another, we let the disappointments in one year carry into the next, or we allow our mistakes to crowd out our new beginnings. In doing so we don’t prepare to welcome and embrace all that is ahead. We can stumble into the start of a year instead of entering it with strength and peace. This advent why not focus your thoughts and prayers each day on him that little bit more. Why not make some room for what’s to come, end some things so others can begin. Why not let him know your heart is open to what is ahead, thank him in advance, put out your welcome matt in the Spirit to let God know you believe and are ready to receive what is ahead. Let’s take this ADVENT and make it an event in our journey with God. So each morning as you open the door on the calendar open the door of your heart also to welcome his coming in greater measure in your life. Make this a very Happy ADVENT Xxxx.
