Move Up – Awareness

Move Up – Awareness

This week in our new series #loveyourneighbour I asked ‘How aware are you of what’s going on, on your street?’. #loveyourneighbour is a commandment we are all responsible to outwork. Yet often our lack of awareness causes a lack of action. Do you really know what the needs are in your NEIGHBOURhood. Are you aware who is in need, isolated, who is celebrating a birthday, wedding, new baby, who has suffered loss, redundancy, sickness etc When we are aware of what matters to others we become able to love our Neighbours better. When Queen Esther in Esther 4 was told her uncle Mordecia was in sackcloth and wailing outside the palace, her first response was to send him new clothes. But he sent them back.. Why? Because he didn’t need her to send clothes he needed her to become aware of her people’s plight so she could help bring relief. She needed to be made aware of what was happening in her NEIGHBOURhood. As the church we need to make sure we aren’t sending irrelevant projects, gifts or words out into our communities. We need to make sure we know who lives around the place where we gather, what post/zip code did God entrust you to revive, bless, serve and love. We must learn like queen Esther learnt that awareness doesn’t send first it asks first!! Awareness asks what’s happening, so it can then be strategic with what God wants sending. So can you move up your awareness this week. Ask questions, start conversations, put people’s names on your fridge and pray for them, ask after people, listen and learn. Then as you become more aware, you can give better care as you #loveyourneighbourScreen Shot 2014-09-11 at 13.39.42
