Tuning Into God’s Word

I am old enough to remember a time when in order to change the channel on the television, you had to walk across the room and push the buttons on the TV set.  Long before remote controls existed, you had to decide how much you really wanted to watch something, because it would require you to leave the comfort of your seat to make it happen. With the invention of the remote control, the whole process became effortless: now anyone, at any time, can flick through the channels without having to leave the sofa.

Though it may be convenient when it comes to our viewing habits, the truth is it becomes dangerous when we have the same scenario play out in our personal lives.

We live in a time where so many voices, comments and opinions want our attention. We move from one conversation to another and it’s as if the remote-control power is transferred each time. With so many platforms available, the over-saturation of information has led to a lack of personal vigilance for many of what we allow to have amplification in our lives. Today, where do you need to take the remote control back?

The Bible says in Matthew 6:22-23 ‘your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light.’ and if not, ‘your body is a musty cellar.’

If the people around you keep changing the channel from what God says to what they think, if someone in your world turns the channel from positivity to negativity, or if when you want to view the future, someone has a remote that sends you to the past, then you need to get the remote back.

It’s time to realize that life requires you to make some choices: to get off the sofa called apathy and complacency and become more deliberate about what gets your viewership. This month, choose your channels well. Disempower the feelings flicker and become your own best channel picker.  Happy viewing friends.
